Hysteroscopy
Hysteroscopy is the use of a telescope-like instrument with a video camera to visually inspect the lining of the uterus (endometrium).
It is commonly used to diagnosis problems of the lining of the uterus including endometrial polyps, submucosal uterine fibroids, and uterine anomalies.
When combined with an operative port, specialized surgical instruments may be used to operate within the uterine cavity.
Guided by the hysteroscopy, surgery on the lining of the uterus can remove polyps & fibroids, correct congenital uterine abnormalities and in even surgically excise the lining of the uterus to manage heavy menstrual flow.
Operative hysteroscopy requires general or regional anesthesia and can be performed as an outpatient procedure. Recovery usually is related to the extent of surgery.
Procedures include:
- Removal of endometrial polyp
- Resection of submucosal fibroids
- Endometrial Ablation
- Correction on uterine abnormalities
- Management of blocked fallopian tubes
